Why Move to Mobile-First Design?

Why is it that Epoch Online now often chooses a mobile-first design over responsive design? What’s the difference, and why even care? The mobile-first design approach isn’t an idea we simply brewed up one morning hyped up when drinking caffeinated coffee (though we do like our coffee). It’s actually because we pay attention to both, stats and the familiar 80/20 Rule.

Here, the 80/20 Rule states that if 80% of your target audience uses desktops, then stick with responsive design. But if 80% lean toward mobile phones, then use a mobile-first design. Decisions, decisions. Here’s a discerning tip: Do you know that 52.64% of the total Internet traffic is driven by mobile phones, and Zenith Media predicts that number to soon rise to 75%?  But if your users are split in using both desktop and mobile—then what?
